Last year, I updated the way I display Amazon affiliate links in my blog posts. I was once again bragging about how I had found a technical solution for a regulatory problem – in this case, creating hover-text.
As it turns out, it was a fidgety solution, prone to not doing what I wanted it to do and also subject to my own forgetfulness. As I prepared last week’s post, I realized that I had put up a number of articles wherein I failed to add the hover link, as I promised I would. (I’ve tried to go back and remedy that).
Shortly after that change, though, I came up with what I think was an even better solution. I began coloring the links to Amazon differently than my other internal and external links. I suspect this is more universal. I don’t know how well hover text translates across all platforms but I hope when I make a link appear “green,” it appears that color for everyone.
But that’s not really why I am writing this post.
The other factoid I’ve repeated for you over the years is how, although I do feature affiliate links on my pages, I’ve never actually been paid for them. While that actually remains true – technically speaking – it may now be a tad misleading.
Following that last post, I saw a surge of activity in the pre-Christmas season. It’s actually earned me a couple of bucks. Amazon only pays out when you cross the $10 mark, so it is still true that I’ve never actually received money from this program, but it is also true that now Amazon does owe me something.
I hope you don’t think less of me.
